Unfortunately, you may experience problems logging in to your galleries if you use our webintegration. Instead of a successful login, an error message is displayed, which your client can unfortunately do nothing about. This is only the case if all following 3 points are fulfilled at the same time:
- For the link to the gallery you use the webintegration, i.e. a link like www.deine-website.de/galerien or similar instead of www.picdrop.de/deinname
- The gallery you have sent is password protected.
- Your customer is using Safari and has already updated to the latest browser version 12.1.
What can you do now?
All points apply to you or your customer has already reported that he can’t access the gallery?
Solution 1: The easiest but at the same time most unattractive way to avoid this error is to deactivate the password. Since you have probably set the password for a good reason, we recommend this way only under reservation and on own responsibility.
Solution 2: A more secure, but time-consuming solution is to send your customer the link again, this time using the direct picdrop.de address instead of your webintegration URL. We understand that this is not a great solution, but we can assure you that PicDrop will work without an error warning. You can find out how to get to this address here.
Solution 3: If your customer needs quick access to the gallery, or the other two solutions are not suitable for you, you can simply ask to use another browser temporarily. This is still working, but unfortunately it is not a long-term solution.
How does this mistake happen and what do we do about it?
The background to these problems is a deliberate decision by Apple not to accept third-party cookies in the Safari browser. Unfortunately we can’t change that and it looks like other browsers will follow this example soon. Cookies are, however, a basic technical requirement for implementing things like the login in a PicDrop gallery in a technically clean way. Third party cookies, on the other hand, ensure that the login works even if you use our web integration. Your customer will be “secretly” redirected to PicDrop in the background. Exactly such behavior will be blocked by Safari in the future. We are in the process of finding out if there is another way to keep web integration alive. As soon as our research on this has been completed, you will know first. (Promised.)
How should I behave in the future?
We recommend that you send direct PicDrop links in the future. This may not be as pretty as your personal URL, but it ensures that PicDrop works flawlessly for your clients. And that’s the most important thing, isn’t it?
How do I get the PicDrop link?
To reset the share link to the normal PicDrop URL, please reset the link in your account settings. That can be done in the section “Reset stored address“. After that you will see the “normal” PicDrop address in the galleries again.
